Angara urges newly elected leaders to prioritize education
Education Secretary Sonny Angara on Thursday called on newly elected leaders to make education a priority in their service.
Angara emphasized that newly elected officials should prioritize education as they assume office. He said their leadership must be guided by facts and that they must use available data to craft responsive education programs.
“The people have placed their trust in you. Hope alone is not enough. Leadership must have clarity,” Angara said in his speech delivered by Undersecretary Ron Mendoza at a national education forum.
“The elections are over, but our work continues. Let’s all help build better schools, support our teachers, and give our youth the future they deserve,” he added.
Angara further lauded the more than 600,000 teachers and Department of Education (DepEd) personnel who served during the elections, calling them “frontliners of democracy.”
He said their professionalism and service had helped ensure orderly polls in thousands of schools across the country.
He also mentioned that the strong voter turnout was a sign of democratic renewal in the Philippines. —Anna Felicia Bajo/LDF, GMA Integrated
