PNP: Validated-election related incidents up to 74

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said a total of 74 validated election-related incidents have been monitored since the start of the election period on January 12 in the May 2025 midterm elections.

In a press briefing, PNP public information office chief Police Colonel Randulf Tuaño presented data as of Thursday showing that most of the cases were reported in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) with 23 cases.

This was followed by Cordillera Administrative Region with 17, Calabarzon with nine, and Zamboanga Peninsula with five.

Davao Region logged four validated election-election incidents while Central Luzon had three. Two incidents were reported each in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Western Visayas, Soccsksargen, and Negros Island Region.

One incident was also recorded in Eastern Visayas.

According to Tuaño, 55 of the cases are still under probe, nine for filing of complaints, one considered solved, six where cases are already filed, two were dismissed, and one was amicably settled.

The PNP has yet to provide an update on the number of fatalities and injured persons in connection with the polls. However, the PNP on Thursday said there are now 20 validated election-related killings.

Authorities are still validating 43 suspected-election related incidents.

Despite reports of violence and delays in the voting process in some areas, the PNP said the May 2025 midterm elections have been generally peaceful.

The PNP will review security strategies from the recent midterm elections in preparation for the parliamentary polls in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in October as well as for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in December. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
