JBC releases shortlist for SC associate justice

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) on Friday released the shortlist of nominees for the position of Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice.

This is due to the compulsory retirement of Associate Justice Mario Lopez on June 4, 2025.

Those included in the shortlist are:

Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Nina Antonio-Valenzuela

CA Associate Justice Ramon Mariño Bato

UP College of Law Dean Darlene Marie Berberabe

CA Associate Justice Ramon Cruz

CA Associate Justice Maria Diy

CA Associate Justice Myra Garcia-Fernandez

CA Presiding Justice Fernanda Lampas Peralta

CA Associate Justice Ronaldo Martin

Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Karl Miranda

CA Associate Justice Walter Santos Ong

Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) Associate Justice Maria San Pedro

Court Administrator Raul Villanueva

Berberabe was recently appointed as Solicitor General, replacing Menardo Guevarra.

The interviews were conducted from May 14 to May 16 and May 21 at the SC Session Hall.

The interviews were conducted by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, former SC Associate Justice Jose Catral Mendoza, Professor Atty. Nesauro Firme, and former CTA Associate Justice Erlinda Piñera Uy. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
