New PNP chief Torre holds first command conference

A day after he assumed the position, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Nicolas Torre III presided over his first command conference as the new head of the police force on Tuesday.

PNP public information office chief Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño told GMA News Online that Torre discussed with police officials the nitty-gritty of achieving the target of three-minute response time.

Tuaño said the demonstration of the three-minute response time was held in the Quezon City Police District and Northern Police District in Metro Manila.

The next demonstration for faster police response is set to be conducted by Police Regional Office 11 in the Davao Region.

Meanwhile, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo told GMA News Online that Torre also discussed at the command conference the calls made by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

During the change of command ceremony on Monday, Marcos called on Torre to ensure “clean” police ranks and make police presence felt by the public.

Marcos said Torre's leadership comes at a time when there are calls for clarity, for courage, and for conviction, noting that there are evolving challenges such as transnational crimes, cyber threats, extremist violence, and police misconduct.

The President also ordered the new PNP chief to continue drug operations against drug lords and drug leaders.

As of 3:40 p.m., Fajardo said the PNP command conference is still ongoing. —RF, GMA Integrated News
