PNP eyes more body-worn cameras, drones, mobile CCTVs to improve cop response
The Philippine National Police (PNP) plans to have additional body-worn cameras, drones and mobile closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems to improve police response, spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said Sunday.
During an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Fajardo said PNP has almost 2,700 body-worn cameras, of which 648 can broadcast livestreaming video while others are for used for recording.
“Kapag talagang na-fully operationalize ang ating 911, gusto niya, lahat halos ng nagpapatrolyang police ay naka-body worn camera,” Fajardo said.
(Once our 911 is fully operational, new PNP chief Police Major General Nicolas Torre III wants almost every patrolling police officer to wear a body-worn camera.)
This remark came after Torre’s order to modernize the police force’s tools and systems as well as its way of leading and serving the country.
During his inauguration, Torre ordered police officials to be fast, united, and modern as PNP efforts to strengthen its upholding its mandate ensure public safety.
“As we move forward, we will focus on delivering a brand of service that is fast, efficient, and always within reach of our people. We are strengthening our internal cohesion and ensuring that every member of the PNP family feels protected, valued, and heard,” Torre said.
Fajardo said PNP also plans to deploy drones, especially during big events, noting that PNP currently has around 965 drones.
Fajardo added that PNP is eyeing to acquire rapid deployment CCTVs or portable CCTVs.
“360° makikita natin. Hindi na lang tayo aasa sa mga barangay or street CCTVs,” she said.
(We will have CCTVs with 360° capability. We will not only reply on barangay or street CCTVs.)
