PAF eyes adopting 'space capabilities'

PAF eyes adopting space capabilities

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Tuesday said it is planning to develop space capabilities as “the future of air power demands readiness across all domains.”

“As we mark 78 years of service, we look beyond the horizon with clarity and resolve. The future of air power demands readiness across all domains,” PAF chief Lieutenant General Arthur Cordura said in his speech during the PAF’s 78th anniversary.

“To meet this challenge, we are advancing our capabilities in surveillance, precision strike, advanced systems, integrated air defense, and we'll earnestly work for the adoption of space capabilities,” he added.

The Department of National Defense (DND) and the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) in 2022 signed an agreement to enhance national security through space science and technology applications.

Under the deal, they will work on capacity building and training on the application of satellite-based technologies like remote sensing, geographic information systems, artificial intelligence, and satellite communications, among others.

Cordura said PAF is also enhancing its doctrines, force structure, and strategic partnerships to ensure that the military remains relevant and decisive in times of peace and crisis.

“But more than platforms and systems, it is our values that propel us forward: integrity, service above self, teamwork, excellence, and professionalism,” he said.

“These remain our true strength, along with our commitment to do good governance, pursuit of a stronger safety culture, and unshakeable warrior ethos,” he added. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
