Palace studying legal actions vs BSP 'ghost employees'

Malacañang on Tuesday said it would study filing legal actions on the supposed ''ghost employees'' within the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' Monetary Board.

''Pag-aaralan po iyan, dahil sa ngayon po tinanggal sila at iyon naman po ang nais ng Pangulo. Ang nais ng Pangulo ay maging malinis ang kanyang administrasyon at kung may dapat na managot, dapat managot,'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said.

(That will be studied, because right now they have been removed, and that is what the President wants. The President wants his administration to be clean, and if someone should be held accountable, they should be held accountable.)

Reports said four employees and one immediate supervisor allegedly involved in the controversy had voluntarily resigned in March of last year.

Recent reports stated that, according to BSP Governor Eli Remolona Jr., the matter already lies with the Office of the President.

“The BSP is doing a post-incident review—we are reviewing our rules to ensure that this will not happen again,” a statement from the BSP read.

The BSP assured it would take back the salaries given to the alleged employees.

The Office of the General Counsel had launched an investigation into the incident last October 3, 2023 following reports that several staff in the offices of two Monetary Board members have not been reporting to work but are still receiving salaries.

This was followed by another in-depth investigation in December 2023. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
