Marcos gives 50% fare discounts to seniors, PWDs in MRT, LRT
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday led the launch of the 50% fare discount for senior citizens and persons with disability in LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3.
The launch was held at the MRT-3 Santolan-Annapolis southbound station. The President was welcomed by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and MRT-3 general manager Michael Capati.
This followed the launching of the 50% train fare discount for students last June, which aims to fulfill Marcos’ directives to ease the financial burden of commuters.
(We are here this morning to highlight the new discounts we will offer. Last time, we were able to give 50% discounts to students as long as they present their IDs.)
(Now, we add the senior citizens and PWDs.)
According to Marcos, this program will benefit 13 million senior citizens and seven million PWDs.
This project will increase the fare discount by 30% from the statutory discount of 20%.
The senior citizens and PWDs can avail the discount everyday, according to Dizon.
He added the government would also study if it can provide fare discounts on other public transportation system. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
