Torre vs. Baste: PNP chief accepts acting Davao mayor's fistfight challenge

PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III has accepted the challenge of Davao City Acting Mayor Baste Duterte for a fistfight.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Nicolas Torre III on Wednesday accepted the challenge of Davao City Acting Mayor Baste Duterte to a fistfight.

Torre said this could be in the form of a "charity boxing match."

“Ang una kong naisip, uy tamang-tama. Maraming kababayan natin ngayon ang nangangailangan ng tulong na naapektuhan ng bagyo at baha. Maybe, this is a very good time para sa isang charity boxing match,” Torre told reporters.

(My first thought was, oh, that's good timing. Many of our countrymen are in need of help right now after being affected by the cyclone and floods. Maybe this is a very good time for a charity boxing match.)

“We can do it on Sunday sa Araneta. Actually, puwede. Seriously, it's okay. Maganda yan charity at least makatulong kami ni Mayor Baste sa ating mga kababayang nasalanta yung proceed kung ano man. Sigurado maraming manonood nyan,” he added.

(We can do it on Sunday at Araneta. Actually, we can. Seriously, it's okay. That's a good charity and at least Mayor Baste and I can help our countrymen who were affected by the storm in some way. I'm sure there will be many people watching.)

In a vlog uploaded on Youtube on Sunday, Duterte mentioned Torre and challenged him for a fistfight.

“Kasi matapang ka lang naman you have the position. Pero kung suntukan tayo alam kong makaya kita. But then  you're a coward,” Duterte said.

(You're brave because you have the position. But if we fight, I know I can handle you. But then you're a coward.) —VAL, GMA Integrated News
