Habagat, Crising, Dante, Emong combined infra damage hits P5B

The damage to infrastructure of the southwest monsoon or Habagat, Tropical Cyclones Crising (international name: Wipha), Dante (international name: Francisco), and Emong (international name: Co-May) is now estimated at P5 billion.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) released on Sunday, July 28, damage to infrastructure was recorded at P5,005,253,046.08.

The most damages were recorded in Region 3 or Central Luzon with P3.173 billion, followed by Calabarzon with P855.209 million, Region 1 or the Ilocos Region with P630.905 million, Region 6 or Western Visayas with P161.827 million, Region 2 or Cagayan Valley with P75.600 million, Mimaropa with P59.377 million, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with P49.316 million.

Damage and losses to agriculture were recorded at P484.400 million — P173.942 million in Mimaropa, P99.482 million in Calabarzon, P60.357 million in the Negros Island Region, P58.681 million in Region 12 or Soccsksargen, P46.640 million in Central Luzon, P27.868 million in Western Visayas, P11.460 million in Region 5 or Bicol, P4.069 million in the Cagayan Valley, P1.805 million in the Ilocos Region.

The death toll remained at 30, while 10 were reported injured and seven were missing.

Emong, the latest tropical cyclone, exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Saturday morning, but the state weather bureau PAGASA said the southwest monsoon (Habagat) will continue to bring rains over parts of the country. — RF, GMA Integrated News
