Arnie Teves files bail petition in 2019 murder case

The camp of former Negros Oriental congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. has filed a petition for bail with a Manila court, his lawyer said Tuesday.

Teves' legal counsel Ferdinand Topacio said Teves filed the petition with the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 12, which is handling his murder case for an alleged killing in Negros Oriental in 2019, on July 14.

Earlier, the former lawmaker attended the hearing through video teleconference.

“Very uneventful. We just set hearing date for the bail petition,” Topacio told the media.

Topacio said the bail hearing will start on August 4.

The Manila RTC Branch 12 previously entered a not guilty plea for Teves for this case after he refused to make a plea.

In addition to the 2019 case, Teves is also facing murder, frustrated murder, and attempted murder charges over the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and 10 others on March 4, 2023.

In May he was deported from Timor-Leste, where he had sought asylum, and is in the custody of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). — BM, GMA Integrated News
