EU gives P33M relief aid for flood-hit PH

The European Union (EU) is providing 500,000 euros (over P33 million) in humanitarian aid to the Philippines to help with the government’s response in areas affected by the recent tropical cyclones and Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

“The funding will help address the most pressing needs of people in the hardest hit areas of Calabarzon and Central Luzon, notably communities in hard-to-reach areas,” the EU said in a statement Monday.

“This allocation will be used to provide emergency relief, focusing on cash assistance to address food insecurity and other basic needs, as well as access to safe water and sanitation facilities, among other activities,” the union added.

EU also noted that the 500,000 euros is an additional fund from the 6 million euros allocated for humanitarian aid and disaster preparedness to the Philippines for 2025.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), at least 2.365 million families, or 8.59 million individuals, were affected by the recent weather disturbances.

At least 38 persons were reported dead due to the effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong.

Meanwhile, more than P1.9 billion worth of agricultural infrastructure was damaged due to the continuous downpour. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
