Marcos arrives in Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet Indian PM Modi

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. arrived at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of the Republic of India.

A ceremonial welcome was given to Marcos by the Indian officials. First Lady Louise ''Liza'' Araneta-Marcos was also present during the reception.

The Philippine president will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu to tackle regional issues, including defense and security as well as the economy.

Asked what his expectations for the trip were, Marcos said it would be the reaffirmation of the alliance between the two nations, including the strengthening of their partnership.

''Well, we used to refer to the Asia-Pacific region. We now refer to as the Indo-Pacific region, which is I think a correct evolution of that understanding because of the global nature of all politics and of all of trade and all of the economy,'' Marcos said.

In his five-day state visit, Marcos is accompanied by several Cabinet members and a high-level business delegation.

The visit is expected to yield concrete agreements and renewed commitments that would further enhance the robust partnership between Manila and New Delhi. — RSJ/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
