Over 20k motor vehicles with expired registration apprehended in July - LTO
More than 20,000 motor vehicles with expired registration were apprehended across the country in July, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said on Wednesday.
According to LTO’s data, a total of 20,089 motor vehicles were apprehended last month, including 12,672 motorcycles and 3,712 tricycles.
A total of 1,800 vans, 887 private sedans, 646 trucks, and 253 sports utility vehicles were also apprehended. The remaining vehicles were buses and passenger jeepneys.
Most of the apprehended motor vehicles are from CALABARZON, Cagayan Valley, and MIMAROPA.
“Hindi lang ito usapin ng obligasyon ng pagpaparehistro; ito ay usapin din ng roadworthiness dahil mahigpit ang inspeksyon ng sasakyan before any vehicle is registered,” said LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II in a statement.
(This isn't just about the obligation of registration; it's also about roadworthiness because vehicles undergo strict inspection before any vehicle is registered.)
Apart from the penalty for late registration, the LTO chief warned that violators will be fined P10,000.
“Kaya mas mabuti na magparehistro na lang kayo para makatipid at magamit ninyo ng kampante sa kalooban ang mga sasakyan ninyo lalo na ngayon na agresibo ang ating mga operasyon,” said Mendoza.
(So, it's better for you to just register your vehicles so you can save money and use them with peace of mind, especially now that our operations are aggressive.)
Motor vehicles that have been apprehended must pass a roadworthiness inspection before they are released to their owners, the LTO said. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
