President Marcos meets with US Armed Services lawmakers
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. welcomed Thursday the United States Senate Armed Services Committee congressional delegates in Malacañang Palace.
''We are very grateful that you have found the time from what I understand a very hectic schedule to come and visit us in the Philippines,'' Marcos told the US lawmakers during their courtesy call.
Marcos is optimistic that the lawmakers will have a ''productive and very constructive visit'' in Manila.
According to the committee's website, the Military Affairs and Naval Affairs Committees existed until 1947 when they were combined by the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1946 into a new standing committee, the current Committee on Armed Services.
The Committee on Armed Services jurisdiction includes aeronautical and space activities peculiar to or primarily associated with the development of weapons systems or military operations; common defense; the Department of Defense, the Department of the Army, the Department of the Navy, and the Department of the Air Force, among others.
The said committee is also authorized to study and review, on a comprehensive basis, matters relating to the common defense policy of the United States, and report thereon from time to time. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
