US embassy to nationals: Take precautions during Philippine typhoon season
MANILA, Philippines - Saying the typhoon season in the Philippines has started, the United States embassy in Manila advised US nationals Friday night to take proper precautions. In a warden notice, the embassy said there is now increased tropical storm activity that may impact the Philippines. "In the event of severe tropical depressions, please note the following recommendations to ensure minimal disruption or damage to yourself and your property," it said in the notice posted on its website (manila.usembassy.gov/wwwha008.html). Among the tips listed by the US embassy were: * Secure loose outdoor items around the home; * Fill vehicles and generator fuel tanks; * Check and charge all cell phones and emergency radios; * Make ice blocks; * Check and assemble flashlights, tools, and first aid kits; * Procure batteries, candles, matches, potable water, canned or dry food, pet foods, medications, etc. The embassy also said reports on developing storm activity are available on http://metocph.nmci.navy.mil and www.typhoon2000.ph.
