Marcos open to 'sensible' suggestions from Dutertes on flood control —Palace

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is open to listening to “sensible” suggestions from the Dutertes in addressing the country's anomalous flood control projects, according to Malacañang.

In a statement on Saturday, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President is continuously working to solve the issues surrounding the flood control projects in the country.

“[A]ng mga ganitong komento mula sa kanila pero wala naman suhestiyong ibinibigay sa pagresolba sa problema ay hindi nakakatulong sa bayan,” the Palace official said.

(Comments like these from them, but without proposing any solution, do not help the nation.)

She added the Dutertes could instead help the country by informing the public about the flood control projects of the previous administration under the.family's patriarch, former president Rodrigo Duterte.

“Ang maaari nilang maitulong sana ay ipaalam sa mamamayan ang 13,917 na flood control projects ng nakaraang administrayon para malaman ng lahat kung existing, operational, effective ba ito sa problema sa baha at kung nararamdaman ba natin ang mga proyektong ito ngayon at noong mga nakaraang taon,” Castro said.

(They could help by informing the public about the 13,917 flood control projects from the previous administration, so that everyone can know whether these projects exist, are operational, effective in addressing the flooding problem, and whether we have felt their impact now and in previous years.)

“At kung mayroon naman silang matinong suhestiyon, bukas naman ang Pangulo na makinig sa lahat,” she added.

(And if they have any sensible suggestions, the President is open to listening to everyone.)

Talking to the media in The Hague, Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte criticized the Marcos administration over the flood control ghost project issue.

He said the Davao City local government has a flood control master plan and is working with the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Duterte and his three other siblings were in the Netherlands to visit their father, Rodrigo, who is detained at the International Criminal Court detention facility.

The elder Duterte was arrested on March 11 for his alleged crimes against humanity in connection with the killings under his deadly war on drugs when he was mayor of Davao City and when he was President of the Philippines. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF/KG, GMA Integrated News
