Marcos says he accepted Bonoan resignation due to command responsibility
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said Monday that he accepted the resignation of former Public Works and Highways secretary Manny Bonoan due to command responsibility.
Speaking to reporters in Pasay City, Marcos said Bonoan took responsibility for all the issues hounding the flood control projects.
“I think it was Secretary Bonoan who said that basically he took responsibility, all of these things happened, all of these problems happened under his watch so under the principle of command responsibility that he felt that should leave his post,” Marcos said.
On Sunday, the Presidential Communications Office announced that the President had accepted Bonoan's resignation, effective September 1. Bonoan was replaced by former Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
Bonoan earlier said he would leave it to the President’s decision if he needs to take a leave amid the investigation into the alleged anomalous flood control projects in the country.
The President had disclosed that 20% of the total P545 billion budget of flood control projects was awarded to only 15 contractors, five of which have projects in almost all regions nationwide.
The DPWH already issued a preventive suspension of the district offices involved in ghost projects, including the Bulacan First District Engineering Office, from its District Engineer, Assistant District Engineer, and section chiefs.
Marcos said he is getting very angry with what he has been discovering during his inspections of faulty and ghost flood control projects. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
