PCAB executive director Matienzo resigns due to 'personal reasons'

Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) Executive Director Atty. Herbert Matienzo has resigned.

According to a Super Radyo dzBB report by Christian Mano on Thursday, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Maria Cristina Roque confirmed that Matienzo resigned on September 3 for "personal reasons."

On Wednesday Roque announced that she has placed the Construction Industry Association of the Philippines (CIAP) and its implementing boards, PCAB, under her direct supervision.

The move came after she disclosed the formation of a fact-finding team to oversee the investigation into PCAB following allegations of conflicts of interest, accreditation irregularities, and potential abuses of authority amid the ongoing probe into the flood control project anomalies.

Earlier, PCAB revoked the contractor's licenses of nine construction companies owned and controlled by Sarah Discaya, a key figure in hot water amid the ongoing probe into anomalous flood control projects/

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon on Monday also said a sweeping revamp within the PCAB would be conducted.

''Kasama rin po iyan dito sa napakalaking web na ang kadahilanan dito sa mga napakasamang mga proyekto na ginamit ang pondo ng bayan at dahilan kung bakit hirap na hirap po ang ating mga kababayan, hindi lamang sa Bulacan, hindi lamang sa Metro Manila kung hindi all over the country,'' he added.
