DPWH: LPA, Habagat affect access to 7 road sections

Five national road sections were closed to traffic, while two had limited access following the combined effects of the low pressure area and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Saturday.

In its report, the DPWH said three national road sections were closed in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and two in Region II because of soil collapse, rock collapse, high-water elevation, and scoured bridge approach:

CAR

"Clearing operation is hampered due to the disposal area problem," the DPWH said, advising motorists to take the Ucab-Midas Road as alternate route.

Not passable to all types of vehicles due to scoured Approach “B.” Installed signage and continuous monitoring of affected infrastructure; Backfilling of scoured approach will commence upon water level of Chico River subsides.

The DPWH advised taking Aquib (Tatanep) - Dugayong Bridge, Piat, Cagayan and Aquino Bridge, Lakambini - San Luis, Piat, Cagayan as alternate routes.

Meanwhile, two national road sections had limited access: one in CAR and one in Negros Island Region (NIR) due to soil collapse, damaged slope protection and road slip.

CAR

1. K0223+020 (Sitio Camp 2, Brgy. Twin Peaks, Tuba, Benguet) of S00393LZ or Kennon Road (Primary Road); Passable to light vehicles only due to soil collapse and road slip (cave-in road base) ; Installed warning signs and continuous monitoring.

Along Rockshed approach (Camp 6, Tuba, Benguet); Passable to light vehicles only due to soil collapse, damaged slope protection and road slip (cave-in road base); Installed warning signs and continuous monitoring.

Negros Island Region

It was reported to have limited access to traffic since August 28, 2025. Actions taken include installation of warning signs and traffic and public road advisory, continuous monitoring of affected infrastructure and identification of alternate route.

The DPWH advised motorists to take the Larena-Basac-Maria Road as alternate route.

"All other national roads and bridges in the affected regions are passable to all types of vehicles as of captioned date and time (September 6, 10 a.m.)," the DPWH said.

The LPA developed into Tropical Depression Lannie early Saturday morning. Hours later, Lannie left the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

However, the Southwest Monsoon, slightly enhanced by Lannie, will bring strong to gale-force gusts in some parts of Luzon, according to PAGASA. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
