DOJ receives lookout order request for DPWH official

DOJ receives request for lookout order vs. DPWH official

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has received the request for an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) against former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo, Justice spokesperson Mico Clavano said Wednesday.

“Within the day, the papers will be prepared and will be for signature of the Secretary,” Clavano said in an ambush interview.

Once signed, Clavano said it will be transmitted to the Bureau of Immigration.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon requested the DOJ to issue an ILBO against Bernardo.

This was after his name was mentioned by former Bulacan 1st district assistant engineer Brice Ericson Hernandez during the inquiry of the House Infrastructure Committee on alleged anomalous flood control projects.

Hernandez also alleged that some senators are involved in the supposed scheme.

Clavano, meanwhile, clarified that an ILBO does not bar any individual from leaving the country.

“This is a mechanism by which we can only monitor, but the right to travel can only be hindered by the courts. Eh, hindi naman po korte ang naglabas nito, kung hindi the DOJ lang, through the Immigration,” he said.

“This is not a hindrance to their ability to travel, although it is with caution that they should. Kasi nga po, kapag lumabas kayo, that can also be taken against the people who are under investigation,” he added.
