Singson says he might be a part independent commission
Former Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson on Wednesday said that he might become a member of the independent commission that President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos is forming to investigate ghost and substandard flood control projects across the country.
Asked to confirm a report that he would be leading the commission, Singson said, “I might be part only."
"If PBBM thinks I can help, let’s see,” Singson told GMA News Online.
GMA News Online also reached out to Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong to confirm if he would be part of the body, but he has yet to reply as of posting time.
Reports have quoted Magalong as saying he was no longer qualified to be part of the commission because he was a politician.
Speaking to reporters in Cambodia, Marcos assured that the body would have full independence and would exclude politicians.
"We have made very sure that they are in fact independent, truly independent. So, walang pulitiko diyan, walang (No politician there)… Puro imbestigador, abogado, para mga (They're all investigators and lawyers)… It's a technical—, it's a technical exercise," Marcos said.
He had said the independent body would be completely separate from the government, and would be composed of a lawyer or a justice, an investigator, and a forensic accountant who would work with all government agencies—primarily with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for the investigation aspect, and the Commission on Audit (COA) for information.
The body will also have a recommendatory role, and is expected to submit its findings to the Department of Justice (DOJ) or to the Office of the Ombudsman for the proper filing of cases, Marcos had said. –NB, GMA Integrated News
