Residents from town near Bulusan allowed to return home
Residents of Juban town in Sorsogon province who flocked to evacuation centers after Mt. Bulusan displayed volcanic activity in recent weeks were allowed Wednesday to return to their homes. The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council, comprised of Juban local government officials and representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), said there was no imminent danger to residents because Mt. Bulusan has been calm the past few days. Officials added that they are prepared to evacuate Juban residents if the volcano acts up again. Alert level 2 is still up over the Mt. Bulusan, with people not allowed within a four-kilometer radius. Residents, mostly farmers, were relieved to have been allowed to return so they can tend to their livelihood. Local officials have also asked the National Disaster Coordinating Agency (NDCC) to bring in heavy equipment to clear the river of lahar and boulders that rolled down from Mt. Bulusan during heavy rains.-GMANews.TV
