Marcos highlights Tara, Basa program's importance to learners, parents
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday cited the significance of the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) Tara, Basa! (Come, Let’s Read!) Tutoring Program as this not only assists learners in improving their reading skills but also provides financial support to college students and parents.
“Isang programang tumutugon sa problema ng edukasyon at nagbigay kita sa mga college students at magulang. Pinag-isipan at ipinatupad nang may malasakit at pagmamahal sa kapwa lalung-lalo na sa ating kabataan,” Marcos said during the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program National Culminating Activity at the University of Makati.
“Ito po ang diwa ng Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program. Ito ang tunay na diwa ng serbisyo publiko. Ang tagumpay ng Tara, Basa! ay bunga ng pagkakaisa,” he said.
(This is a program that addresses the problem faced by education and is a financial help to college students and parents. This was studied and implemented with care and love for others, especially for the youth.
This is the spirit of the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program. This is the true spirit of public service. The success of this program is a result of unity.)
According to the Presidential Communications Office, the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program improves the skills of college students so that they can become tutors and youth development workers (YDW) who will teach students who are struggling or non-readers.
Moreover, the program also helped parents and guardians through the Nanay-Tatay sessions, which were supported by youth development workers.
Marcos said the program has reached 348,000 Filipinos in need of learning support in two years.
The DSWD launched the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program in July 2023 in Metro Manila, and it was later expanded to 11 other regions. — RF, GMA Integrated News
