House suspends session amid rumored coup vs. Romualdez
The House of Representatives suspended session on Tuesday amid reports of efforts to unseat Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The motion to suspend the session until 3 pm of September 17, Wednesday, was put forward by House Deputy Majority Leader and Lanao del Sur Representative Zia Alonto Adiong.
The plenary approved Adiong’s motion without objections at 3:29 p.m. or just 29 minutes after the session started. During the 29 minutes, session was suspended once before bills were referred to their appropriate committees.
There have been talks going around that Isabela 6th district Rep. Faustino Dy III will be elected as the new Speaker of the House to replace Romualdez.
Dy is a member of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas which is the political party of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
Romualdez, on the other hand, is the cousin of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. and the president of ruling party Lakas-CMD, which has over 104 House members.
GMA News Online reached out to Romualdez for comment and will publish it once available. The office of Dy, on the other hand, said they will not comment on the issue for now.
During a Senate hearing last week, Romualdez was among those mentioned by contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya in connection with the flood control projects.
However, when Curlee Discaya testified in a House hearing, he clarified that he has no direct transaction with Romualdez. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
