Comelec officially proclaims Gabriela partylist
The Commission on Elections (Comelec), sitting as the national board of canvassers (NBOC), on Wednesday formally proclaimed Gabriela Women’s Party as the winner of the 64th congressional seat in the 2025 May elections.
Gabriela first nominee Sarah Jane Elago received the certificate of proclamation at the Comelec Office in Intramuros, Manila.
“Winner ang Gabriela Women's Party. Tagumpay ng kababaihan na hindi sumuko na tumindig at lumabas para sa tunay na representasyon sa Congress,” Elago told reporters.
(Gabriela Women’s Party won and this is a victory for all women who did not stop to call for a true representation in Congress.)
“Asahan niyo na pagpapatuloy natin ang lahat ng nasimulan ng Gabriela Women’s Party sa pagtindig para sa karapatan ng mga kababaihan, ng LGBTQIA+, ng bata, at ng buong bayan,” she said.
(Expect that we will continue to stand for the rights of women, LGTBQIA+, youth, and the public.)
The party-list’s proclamation came amid the leadership change in the House of Representatives. Elago said she is set to take oath before a judge in Quezon City but expressed hope to also be immediately sworn in before the open session to assume House membership.
“We’re hoping to have our oath without delay. For Gabriela Women’s Party, any delay is unacceptable. Ready na kami mag-file ng bills at sana makapag-assume tayo agad ng office,” she added.

The Comelec earlier announced Gabriela will assume the 64th seat in the House of Representatives. This developed after the poll body earlier said it will proclaim an additional seat for the party-lists, rounding up the number of winning seats to 64 in the 20th Congress.
Comelec also clarified with GMA Integrated News that Gabriela's taking a seat is not in place of Duterte Youth, whose registration was nullified due to its failure to comply with the mandatory requirements of publication and hearing in relation to its candidacy in 2019.
The recomputation of the seat allocation came after the Philreca Party-list filed a motion suggesting that the correct allocation of party-list seats must be 64. The poll body then recognized the motion. — with Sandra Aguinaldo/BM, GMA Integrated News
