DOJ wants to evaluate DPWH witness for WPP — SOJ Remulla
The Department of Justice (DOJ) wants a witness from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) evaluated for the Witness Protection Program (WPP), Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said Friday.
“Meron kaming gustong i-evaluate na (There is somebody who we want to evaluate as) witness from DPWH… evaluate for witness protection. Basta we’re working on it. I’ve asked a few friends in the Senate to start, to help us start the process also,” Remulla said at a briefing.
He said the authorities must “create the links.”
“Alam mo may mga vital link ‘yan. Alam mo tayo, we have to create the links and connect the dots. And sometimes, they’re the most important pieces of the puzzle. Ayan lang ‘yan, eh,” he said.
(There are vital links. We have to create the links and connect the dots.)
Remulla, however, did not name the DPWH witness.
Earlier in the day, Remulla met with contractors Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya II and Sarah Discaya to evaluate their application to the program.
Aside from the Discayas, Remulla said two to three other individuals have expressed interest in being placed under the WPP.
“Marami na, meron nang nagpaparamdam na iba pa. We will get them one by one to talk to us,” he said.
(There are already many, others are starting to reach out. We will get them one by one to talk to us.)
He said that one of them may be from the 15 contractors mentioned by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
“Merong isa ‘yata na kasama sa top 15 pero meron din hindi kasama,” he said.
(There is someone belonging to the top 15, but there are some who are not.)
Meanwhile, he declined to divulge details about the meeting, saying this is confidential. Despite this, Remulla said that the Discayas seemed “relieved.”
“I think that they’re really looking for a solution to their problem,” he said when asked if the couple seemed cooperative.
Remulla said their application will still undergo evaluation.
He also said that everything revealed during the meeting will not be used for anything unless an agreement is reached. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
