Protesters flock to Luneta for September 21 rally

Protesters have begun to flock to Luneta in Manila on Sunday morning for the “Baha sa Luneta:Aksyon Laban sa Korapsyon” mass protest rally.

Among the early arrivals were groups Gabriela Women’s Partylist, Health Alliance for Democracy, and Karapatan. They were also joined by ordinary citizens from all walks of life.

Protesters also set up several tarpaulins and signages against corruption. Many were also carrying banners and the Philippine flag.

A stage has been set up near the Rizal Monument near Kalaw Avenue with the program set to start at 9 a.m.

Both Padre Burgos and Finance Roads were closed to vehicular traffic so participants were required to walk to the event venue.

The weather in the morning was sunny as the event began with a rendering of Lupang Hinirang, the Philippine National Anthem.

Also present were members of the Dominican Sisters of St Catherine de Siena.

With their slogan “Domican ako panig ko sa totoo,” Sister Trisha de Casteo O.P. said they joined the rally to “bring peace and enlightenment” to the government amid the issues surrounding the anomalous flood control projects in the country.  —RF, GMA Integrated News
