VP Sara says she wrote song about corruption: ‘Mga sakim, durugin na’
Vice President Duterte over the weekend said she composed a song about the supposed corruption in the government, calling on the nation to stand up against greedy people.
Speaking before a Filipino crowd in Nagoya, Japan, Duterte once again slammed the Marcos administration, which she described as the “face of abuses and corruption.”
“Hindi siya sincere, hindi siya tapat sa kanyang mga dapat gawin. Unang-una, hindi na nga niya alam kung ano ang gagawin, pangalawa, hindi pa siya tapat sa kailangan niyang gawin. ‘Yan ang kalagayan ng ating bansa ngayon. ‘Yan ang pagkakamali natin,” the Vice President said.
(The President is not sincere, he is not honest about what he has to do. First of all, he does not know what to do, secondly, he is not honest about what he needs to do. This is the state of our country today. This was our mistake.)
“Noon…sinasabi ko na, meron tayong pagkakamali sa pagpili ng ating mga leaders. Ngayon, nakikita na natin kung ano ‘yung nangyayari kapag mali na leader ang pinipili natin sa ating bayan,” she added.
(I've already said before, we made a mistake in choosing our leaders. Now, we can see what would happen if we choose the wrong leader in our country.)
Duterte then said she wrote a song, which she believes would make the Filipinos better understand her sentiments.
She asked the Filipino community to sing the song with her. The lyrics go:
“Sa dilim, tayo isinilang.
Sa hirap, tayo nagdurusa.
Sagana sila sa kayamanan.
Taong bayan, nilunod sa parusa.
Kami ay apoy na hindi mapatay
Hakbang ng matapang, sabay-sabay
Sigaw ng bayan, lumaban na
Mga sakim, durugin na
Mga bulok na pangako
palasyong ipinatong sa ating buto
Krimeng itinago sa kasinungalingan
Kalayaan natin ipinagpalit sa ginto
Kami ay apoy na hindi mapatay
Hakbang ng matapang, sabay-sabay
Sigaw ng bayan, lumaban na
Mga sakim, durugin na
Kami ay apoy na hindi mapatay
Hakbang ng matapang, sabay-sabay
Sigaw ng bayan, lumaban na
Mga sakim, durugin na
Taas noo, humahakbang
Wag yumuko kailanman.”
Duterte said she wrote the lyrics amid the investigation into the alleged irregularities in flood control projects, some of which have been linked to senators, congressmen, and personnel from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The Vice President is also facing corruption allegations. She was impeached by the House of Representatives in February 2025 mainly due to allegations of the misuse of P612.5 million worth of confidential funds and saying she had contracted someone to kill President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr.
In August, the Senate voted to transfer to the archives the articles of impeachment against Duterte, following the Supreme Court (SC) decision to declare her impeachment unconstitutional.
The House, as well as other groups and individuals, has asked the SC to reverse its decision on the matter. — BM, GMA Integrated News
