ICI chair Justice Reyes on flood control probe: 'No one is above the law'

Independent Commission for Infrastructure chairman retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Andres Reyes Jr. said Tuesday that “no one is above the law” in their probe into anomalous flood control and other infrastructure projects.

Reyes added that “honesty is the best policy” and they are conducting the investigation for “God, country, and our poor people.”

“This is for country, God and our poor people," he said.

The largely private and media-shy magistrate spoke for the first time since assuming the post at the signing of memorandum of agreement with the Philippine National Police, Mayors for Good Governance, and Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers.

Reyes also asked the media’s help in uncovering corruption.

“Other than the mayors, maybe the media can also help us towards discovering the truth,” he said.

The ICI is on its third day of investigation into the flood control mess.

It has called on Senate President Tito Sotto, Senate blue ribbon committee chairman Sen. Panfilo Lacson, former Senate finance committee chair Grace Poe, and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco.

Last Friday, it also summoned former DPWH Sec. Manuel Bonoan and former Bulacan assistant district engineer Brice Hernandez who returned a luxury vehicle to the commission as a gesture of cooperation. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
