Manila Water starts repairs of burst pipe along Visayas Ave. in QC
East zone concessionaire Manila Water Company Inc. on Monday started the repairs of the 300-mm burst pipe along Visayas Avenue after it caused flooding and affected the operations of some commercial establishments in Quezon City.
Manila Water Corporate Communications Affairs Group Director Jeric Sevilla said the water concessionaire started the repairs at around 8 a.m. and was expected to be completed by 2 p.m.
At least 2,980 households in the barangays of Vasra, Culiat, and New Era were affected by the burst pipe, Sevilla said.
“Nagkaroon tayo ng breakage dito sa may Visayas Avenue. Medyo malaki ang linya, 300 mm pipe ito kaya nagsimula na tayo ng repair kaninang 8 a.m. Pinatapos muna natin ang peak hours kaya hindi pinatay ang balbula pero ngayon, sarado na ang balbula at nagsisimula na ang exposure ng pipe,” he told Super Radyo dzBB .
(There was a breakage of a 300-mm pipe along Visayas Avenue. We started the repairs at around 8 a.m. We waited until the rush hour was over to turn off the water valve.)
“Hopefully, mga 2 p.m. mamaya matatapos natin ito (Hopefully, we’ll be finished by 2 p.m.),” he said.
According to Sevilla, Manila Water has yet to confirm the cause of the leak. They have deployed five water tankers to provide temporary water supply to the affected residents while the repairs are ongoing.
“Maaaring gamiting pandilig, panlinis ng palikuran, panlinis ng sasakyan pero not for drinking purposes,” he added.
(The water can be used for gardening and cleaning the bathroom or vehicles but not for drinking purposes.)
A report of James Agustin on “Unang Balita” said the residents noticed the water leak at around 11 p.m. on Sunday, September 27. A concerned citizen reported the incident to local authorities.
