Dy wants ban on kin of public officials from entering gov't contracts prioritized

Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III on Tuesday pushed for the inclusion of the bill banning relatives of public officials from participating in government contracts in the priority legislation of the Marcos administration.

Dy made the announcement after the first Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) meeting of the 20th Congress. The new Speaker also called for the inclusion of the following measures in the legislative agenda:

  • bill providing for Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance Framework
  • bill strengthening the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) by extending its corporate life and opening select lands for development
  • bill for Presidential Merit Scholarship Program rewarding outstanding graduates from low- and middle-income families
  • bill regulating digital campaigning through a fair use of social media, AI, and technology in elections
  • bill modernizing the Bureau of Immigration 
  • the Rice Industry and Consumer Empowerment (RICE) bill and
  • Magna Carta for Barangays

“The House’s legislative agenda for the 20th Congress is anchored on economic growth, stronger social protection, and governance reforms. Central to this agenda are laws that will secure affordable food, generate sustainable jobs, expand digital connectivity and raise the quality of public services for all Filipinos,” Dy said.

“With the President’s leadership and the collective will of this Council, we are confident that we can achieve these legislative goals,” he added.

Likewise, the Speaker  reported that out of the 33 priority measures identified by the Executive, 32 have already been filed in the House of the Representatives.

“This [situation] sets a positive tone for our productive collaboration with all branches of government. The House will be responsive to the needs of our people,” Dy said. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
