Marcos arrives in Bogo, Cebu to check earthquake victims

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. arrived in Bogo City, Cebu Thursday to check the situation of the victims of the devastating magnitude 6.9 earthquake that left dozens dead.

The President is expected to be briefed as regards the damage brought by the strong earthquake.

Marcos checked the affected areas together with Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro, Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon, Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Education Secretary Sonny Angara, and Energy Secretary Sharon Garin.

He personally visited the Yolanda Housing Village in Barangay Polambato — which was used as a relocation site for survivors of Supertyphoon Yolanda, according to the Cebu local government.

Marcos earlier directed government agencies to mobilize all assistance for the victims of the powerful earthquake.

He also expressed sympathies to the families whose loved ones died in the earthquake.

The death toll from the Cebu earthquake has increased to 72, according to the latest figures from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The agency said all casualties are still for validation.

''Buong puso akong nakikiramay sa mga pamilyang nawalan ng mahal sa buhay, at kasama sa aking mga dasal ang kaligtasan ng mga nasugatan at lahat ng naapektuhan ng lindol,'' Marcos previously said in a statement.

(I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families who lost loved ones, and my prayers include the safety of the injured and all those affected by the earthquake.)
