Sept. 21 protest 'leaders' faced subpoenas over violent incident —CIDG
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said Monday it issued subpoenas against four alleged leaders of groups in connection with the reported violent incidents in Manila during the September 21 protest against corruption.
“Nag-issue po ng subpoena ang CIDG sa apat na indibidwal, allegedly leaders ng apat din na grupo na allegedly may kinalaman sa violent incident,” CIDG spokesperson Police Major Helen dela Cruz said in a press briefing.
(The CIDG has issued subpoenas to four individuals, alleged leaders of four groups allegedly involved in the violent incident.)
“Ang patawag nila kaninang umaga. Sa apat na iyon, isa lang po ang dumating,” she added.
(They were summoned this morning. Of the four, only one came.)
The CIDG will file a petition for indirect contempt of court for those who failed to comply with the subpoena, according to the spokesperson.
Dela Cruz refused to divulge the names of the involved persons and groups as the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
She said the four leaders have been identified through the statements of some of the arrested persons during the protest and social media posts, among others.
Trouble started in the Manila protest when unidentified young men set on fire several tires in front of a shipping container used by authorities as a blockage.
Bottle, paint, rocks were thrown at the cops who were forced to use their riot shields to protect themselves from the flying debris.
Hundreds of individuals were arrested during the protest.
According to the Department of Health, a man passed away due to stabbing after the rally.
