Japan bats for stronger economic ties with City of Manila — Japanese envoy
The Japanese government is looking at expand its economic cooperation with the City of Manila, the Embassy of Japan in Manila said on Tuesday.
In a press release, Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya said that Tokyo is eyeing closer ties with Manila, especially with the 70th Anniversary of Japan-Philippines Friendship coming up next year.
“The City of Manila has long stood as a vibrant and dynamic hub, not only serving as a key market for Japanese businesses but also as a premier destination for Japanese tourists,” Kazuya said.
“We want to underscore this central role and potential as Japan continues to expand its cultural and economic partnership with the Philippines,” he added.
He also reaffirmed Japan's commitment to closely work with the local government of Manila in bolstering the bilateral relations of Japan and the Philippines.
On Sept. 24, Kazuya met with Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno and Vice Mayor Angela Lei “Chi” Atienza to discuss public safety and security concerns, and other avenues for economic cooperation.
During the meeting, Kazuya extended his appreciation for the mayor’s initiatives in strengthening security measures for Japanese residents and tourists in Manila, as he highlighted the importance of a safe environment in fostering deeper ties between their nations. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
