OVP on standby to give aid after powerful Davao Oriental quake

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) said Friday that it is currently on standby to assist any local government unit in providing relief to those in need, following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental.
The OVP, currently led by Vice President Sara Duterte, said that its Southern Mindanao satellite office is closely monitoring the situation on the ground after the powerful earthquake.
“We urge those affected by the earthquake to seek psychological first aid to help alleviate anxiety and fear, especially for children who may be more vulnerable. It is also important to ensure that Go Emergency Bags are prepared and accessible, in anticipation of possible aftershocks,” the OVP said in a statement.
“We will continue to pray for the Philippines and anticipate coordination efforts to support the local communities,” it added.
The magnitude 7.4 earthquake rocked offshore Manay at 9:43 a.m. on Friday. Intensity V was felt in Davao City while Intensity IV was felt in Bislig City in Surigao del Sur.
A tsunami warning has been raised over the following areas:
- Eastern Samar
- Dinagat Islands
- Davao Oriental
- Southern Leyte
- Surigao Del Norte
- Leyte
- Surigao Del Sur
