DSWD sends over 36,000 family food packs to quake-hit Davao Oriental


The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided more than 36,000 family food packs to residents of Davao Oriental affected by the earthquakes that hit the province on Friday.

The DSWD also distributed more than 5,000 ready-to-eat food packs and over 3,000 non-food items, DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said in a public briefing.

Under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program, the agency released P45,000 worth of burial and medical assistance to affected residents in Davao Oriental.

Two mobile kitchens were deployed to provide hot meals to affected residents, while two mobile command centers were set up to keep open communication lines in the province.

Dumlao added that the DSWD is sending another 25,000 family food packs to Davao Oriental.

Magnitude 5.8 earthquake in Bogo, Cebu

Meanwhile, Dumlao said the government agency has yet to receive additional reports of affected residents and infrastructure damage in Bogo, Cebu after a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck the city earlier today, Oct. 13.

“So far wala pong naitala na apektado o damages o karagdagang damages dyan sa Bogo City. But may mga bilang po ng mga pamilya na nagtungo muli sa mga evacuation centers doon sa mga tent areas to take a temporary shelter,” Dumlao said.

(So far, there have been no affected individuals or additional damages reported in Bogo City. But some families returned to evacuation centers in the tent areas for temporary shelter.)

Since the powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake that rocked Bogo City on Sept. 30, the DSWD gas provided around 500,000 family food packs to affected residents.
