Japan sends aid to Cebu earthquake victims
The Government of Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), gave emergency disaster relief assistance to Cebu residents following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit Bogo town.
“Japan shares in the suffering of our Filipino brothers and sisters in these challenging times, particularly when we experience so many earthquakes not only in Cebu but also in Baguio and Davao. We are one with you, and we hope to be of service wherever and however we can,” Ambassador Endo Kasuya said.
Japan sent tents, blankets, plastic sheets, sleeping pads, portable jerry cans, and water purifiers for the thousands of families displaced by the earthquake.
Before this, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) provided support for the earthquake-affected communities through air transport of relief supplies during the Japan-Philippines bilateral training “Doshin Bayanihan 5-25.”
The ambassador attended the arrival and turnover ceremony of the assistance held at the AVRC Gym, Brgy. Labangon, Cebu City, together with Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro, DSWD Director Shalaine Marie Lucero, and JICA Philippines Chief Representative Baba Takashi.
A partner country of the Philippines over the years, Japan has also provided emergency relief assistance to families during Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, Typhoon Odette in 2021, the North Luzon Earthquake in 2022, and the Mindoro Island oil spill in 2023. —GMA Integrated News
