Marcos thanks Hungary for aid to earthquake victims
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday expressed gratitude to Hungary for its assistance to the victims of the recent earthquakes in the country.
Marcos issued the statement during the courtesy call of National Assembly of Hungary Speaker Kövér László at Malacañan Palace.
“To begin with, allow me to thank your government for the assistance that you have given to us for our earthquake victims," Marcos told Kövér.
Kövér is in the country from October 14 to 17.
He is set to attend the Hungarian National Day reception as guest of honor and meet with Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III and members of the Senate's Philippines-Hungary Friendship Group.
Kövér is also expected to visit Cebu, where he will meet Governor Pamela Baricuatro and Hungarian Honorary Consul in Cebu Enrilen Joy Benedicto-Tan.
On September 30, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit Bogo City, Cebu.
Over a week later, on October 10, consecutive earthquakes struck Manay, Davao Oriental.
Cebu Province and Davao Oriental are in a state of calamity due to the effects of the earthquakes.
The Philippines and Hungary established formal diplomatic relations on September 28, 1973.
Around 11,200 Filipinos are working in Hungary, the Presidential Communications Office said. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
