7 reported dead due to Ramil —OCD

Seven people were reported dead due to the impact of Tropical Storm Ramil (international name: Fengshen), according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Monday.

“Doon naman sa ating mga casualties, kahapon meron tayong napaulat na walo na reported,” OCD spokesperson Junie Castillo told GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita in an interview.

(Regarding casualties, yesterday we had eight reported.)

“Sa ating datos ngayon, pito ang casualties o 'yung mga nasawi kasi 'yung isa na nagkamali doon sa report na iyon, buhay daw po pala 'yung isa,” he added.

(In our data now, there are seven casualties or fatalities because there was a mistake in the previous report in which a reported dead person turned out to be alive.)

In its report at 6 a.m. on Monday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said five of the fatalities were reported in Calabarzon while the other two in Western Visayas.

One person was reported injured in Calabarzon, according to the NDRRMC.

Two people were reported missing in Eastern Samar, Castillo said. Search and rescue operations are ongoing to find them.

A total of 173,000 people or 56,000 families were affected by the tropical cyclone.

However, based on the NDRRMC report, a total of 133,196 people or 37,825 families in Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas were affected by Ramil.

Of the total affected population, the NDRRMC said 7,511 people or 2,260 families were staying inside evacuation centers, while 6,199 people or 1,720 families were taking shelter in other places.

A total of 68 houses were damaged—57 partially and 11 totally.

Seven of the 12 affected road sections as well as all of the 10 affected bridges remained impassable.

At least 58 of the 60 affected seaports were still non-operational. Due to this, 4,178 passengers, 1,433 rolling cargoes, 13 vessels, and 26 motorbancas were stranded.

Power interruptions were still encountered in eight of the 12 affected areas.

Classes in 46 areas and work schedules in two areas have been suspended due to the threat of the bad weather.

A state of calamity was declared in Roxas City, Capiz.

Assistance worth P2,077,881 has been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC.

PAGASA said Tropical Storm Ramil exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility 8 a.m., Monday.

It was monitored to be at 420 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur as of 8 a.m. Monday.

The storm is packing winds of 85 km/h with gustiness of up to 105 km/h. —KG/AOL, GMA Integrated News
