Clergy group urges swift prosecution of officials linked to flood control corruption
The Clergy for Good Governance, a group of priests and bishops, urged the government to fast-track the prosecution and imprisonment of politicians and other individuals involved in allegedly anomalous flood control projects.
According to Carlo Mateo's report on Super Radyo dzBB, the group had a press conference at the EDSA Shrine on Wednesday.
Group convenor Fr. Robert Reyes said the movement’s call has already gained significant support in just two days, with 12 bishops and over 1,200 priests signing a statement of solidarity.
"Prosecute forthwith. Let truth be revealed, accountability be enforced, and restitution begin," part of their statement read.
The group also appealed to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to heed the people’s outrage against corruption and ensure that justice is served.
The call for accountability coincided with the celebration of the Feast Day of St. Pope John Paul II, during which the group also held a Mass to pray for good governance and moral renewal in public service.
The group said their campaign aims to remind government officials of their moral duty to serve the people honestly and to ensure that funds intended for disaster prevention and flood control truly benefit communities. —Sherylin Untalan/KG, GMA Integrated News
