DOH urges travelers to stay calm, follow rules to avoid road rage during Undas exodus

The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday called on those traveling this long weekend for the Undas to observe road courtesy and remain calm to prevent road rage incidents which may result in physical harm.

Health Secretary Ted Herbosa issued the reminder as he inspected the emergency tents stationed along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) as part of the DOH's preparations for the influx of travelers during the Undas exodus.

“Very important, dalhin niyo ang mga gamot ninyo pero iwan ninyo na ang init ng ulo sa bahay. ‘Pag kayo’y nagmamaneho, sigurado ‘yun may traffic kasi lahat gusto makauwi. Dadating po tayong lahat sa ating mga kamag-anak,” Herbosa said.

(It’s very important to bring your medicines but leave your temper at home. When you drive, there will definitely be traffic because everyone wants to go home. We will all arrive at our destinations and see our relatives.)

“‘Wag magmadali, matutong magbigay. Road courtesy lang po tayo. ‘Yung mga pasaway jan, follow road rules para hindi tayo naa-ano sa road rage,” he added.

(Don’t rush, share the road. Let’s always observe road courtesy. Follow road rules so we don’t get caught in a road rage.)

Herbosa said that those who sustain road traffic injuries may avail of the government’s zero-balance billing.

“Yes sagot siya, basta nasa basic accommodation,” he said.

(Yes that is covered as long as they are in basic accommodation.)

The DOH chief also reminded those who are sick, especially those with hypertension and diabetes, not to forget their maintenance medicines before leaving their homes.

The DOH has raised the code while alert in its central office and centers for health development this Undas.

Under this alert status, all medical personnel, especially those in emergency rooms and critical care units, are prepared for a potential increase in patient volume due to accidents, injuries, or other health-related incidents that may happen. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
