Fernando Poe Sr. statue unveiled at Camp Riego de Dios

The Philippine Army Reserve Command unveiled the statue of Captain Allan Fernando Reyes Poe Sr. at a new firing range in Camp Riego de Dios in Tanza, Cavite on Thursday.

“The ceremony also paid tribute to Capt. Allan Fernando Reyes Poe Sr., a World War II veteran and Gold Cross Medal awardee, whose courage and patriotism continue to inspire modern Army Reservists,” the Command said in a statement.

Poe’s great grandson FPJ Panday Bayanihan Partylist Representative Brian Poe attended the ceremony.

“Today, I unveiled the statue of my great grandfather Captain Fernando Poe Sr., UP vanguard, reservist, and war hero,” the lawmaker said in a Facebook post.

“Ngayong araw, ipinagdiriwang natin hindi lamang ang kabayanihan ni Fernando Poe Sr., kundi ang diwang kanyang isinasabuhay - ang diwa ng serbisyo, sakripisyo, at pagmamahal sa bayan na patuloy ninyong pinanghahawakan bilang mga reservist ng Armed Forces of the Philippines,” he added.

(Today, we celebrate not only the heroism of Fernando Poe Sr., but the spirit he lived - the spirit of service, sacrifice, and love for the country that you continue to uphold as reservists of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.)

Army Reserve Command deputy commander Brigadier General Samuel Manzano led the ceremony.

Manzano said the new facility embodies the Command’s firm commitment to readiness, discipline, and excellence.

He noted that the firing range will serve as a vital training ground for the reservists to enhance their marksmanship and boost their operational preparedness. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
