DTI seizes over P200K worth of non-compliant Christmas lights in Divisoria

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Wednesday seized nearly P230,000 worth of Christmas lights in Divisoria, Manila that were found to be non-compliant with safety standards.

“The items were confiscated for lacking the required Philippine Standard (PS) and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) markings, indicating that the products have not undergone the mandatory safety testing and proper quality checks,” the DTI-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau said.

In a statement on Thursday, the DTI reminded consumers to purchase only certified and quality-assured Christmas lights to avoid any fire and electrical hazards due to substandard products.

The government agency also warned businesses to comply and follow product standards.

Every year, the DTI releases a list of approved and certified Christmas light products.

In 2024, the DTI posted these lists of approved Christmas light brands with PS and ICC markings. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
