Tino, Uwan victims to get one-month moratorium on housing payments
The Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) and the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC) have implemented their respective one-month moratorium on housing amortization payments for member-beneficiaries in communities affected by Typhoon Tino and Super Typhoon Uwan.
Both are attached agencies of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
The SHFC’s moratorium period for communities affected by Typhoon Tino runs from November 4 to December 3, 2025, covering member-beneficiaries in Regions IV-B (MIMAROPA), VI (Western Visayas), VII (Central Visayas), VIII (Eastern Visayas), and XIII (CARAGA).
For areas affected by Super Typhoon Uwan, the SHFC moratorium will take effect from November 11 to December 10, 2025 for beneficiaries in the National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Regions I (Ilocos), II (Cagayan Valley), III (Central Luzon), IV-A (CALABARZON), IV-B (MIMAROPA), V (Bicol), and VIII (Eastern Visayas).
Meanwhile, housing loan borrowers of the NHMFC in Central and Eastern Visayas who were affected by Typhoon Tino were given a one-month moratorium on the payment of their monthly amortizations from November 4, 2025 until December 3, 2025.
Both government agencies said the moratorium on housing payments is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Human Settlements Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling to extend immediate relief and assistance to homeowners who were affected by the recent typhoons.
SHFC president and chief executive officer Federico Laxa said the moratorium is part of the agency’s support for the national government in its continuing efforts to ease the burden of affected families.
“In times of calamity, our homeowners can continue to rely on SHFC for support and assistance,” Laxa said.
He also assured that the SHFC will continue coordinating with local government units and other partner agencies to help communities recover from the effects of these disasters.
SHFC encouraged affected beneficiaries to coordinate with their local offices for guidance on the moratorium and to visit the SHFC website for additional information on the moratorium on payments.
For his part, NHMFC president Renato Tobias added that “through this moratorium, NHMFC stands in solidarity with families affected by Typhoon Tino.” More than 1,800 accounts are qualified to benefit from this program.
“We understand the tremendous challenges our borrowers are facing right now, and this initiative is our way of extending compassion and support. By giving one-month relief from loan payments, we hope to ease their burden and give them the time they need to recover and rebuild their lives without worrying about their housing payments,” Tobias said. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
