DOJ: Prosecutors to be on standby for INC’s 3-day rally

Prosecutors will be prepared for the possible filing of any complaint that may stem from any “chaos” during the three-day rally of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) from November 16 to 18, Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon said on Thursday.

“Prosecution offices in the National Capital Region will be on stand-by and will be prepared to receive… complaints if there will be any that will be filed,” he said in an ambush interview.

“We’re hoping and wishing that it will be a peaceful event but we just have to make sure that we’re prepared for any eventuality,” Fadullon added.

Earlier, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) held a meeting at the DOJ office in Manila.

Fadullon said they discussed what should be done in the event that there will be any disruption or violence during the rally dates, similar to the incident that happened on September 21.

During the massive anti-corruption protests on September 21, rallyists vandalized and destroyed properties along Recto Avenue in Manila.

“We just want to make sure that in the event that there will be any forces who may try to disrupt or create any chaos during the said event, we will be ready to handle these cases that will be filed,” Fadullon said.

Previously, the PNP said over 15,000 cops will be deployed to secure the INC rally, which will be held at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

For its part, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said it will field more than 16,400 cops to secure the three-day rally. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
