Kidapawan Bishop named co-head of int’l peace movement

Kidapawan Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo was elected as co-president of Pax Christi International, a global Catholic peace movement that promotes peace, human rights, justice, and reconciliation.

CBCP News reported on Tuesday, Bagaforo will serve alongside Kenyan Sr. Wamuyu Wachira of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary for the next three years.

Bagaforo, who succeeds Bishop Emeritus Marc Stenger of Troyes in France, has led Caritas Philippines, the country’s Catholic Church’s social aid and development arm, for six years.

The prelate was recently appointed president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Interreligious Dialogue, which is a body that promotes dialogue with other religions.

Bagaforo has also spoken against the alleged corruption in relation to the anomalous flood control projects in the country.

He is one of the convernors of the Trillion Peso March Movement, which held protests along EDSA last September 21 and November 30.

With 120 member organizations worldwide, Pax Christi International calls for a deep reflection on the failures of war and calls for nonviolent solutions to build lasting peace and reduce human suffering — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BAP, GMA Integrated News
