Alleged police brutality in Pasig new headache for PNP
MANILA, Philippines - Barely had it recovered from two massacres and a bus-burning incident when the Philippine National Police faces yet another headache â an alleged case of police brutality in Pasig City. A suspected snatcher detained at the Pasig City police station claimed at least four policemen beat him up and slashed his organ sometime between Thursday night and before dawn Friday. "Pagalis ko kagabi di pa ganoon. Pagdating ko duguan ang salawal niya (When I left him last night he was not that way. When I returned early today his pants were bloodied)," the wife of "victim" Jessie Teves told dzBB radio. Mrs Teves, who did not give her first name, said her husband also had bruises in several parts of the body. She said her husband appeared okay when she visited him 9 p.m. Thursday. She said that when she asked him who beat him up, he allegedly replied, "pulis po (the cops)." Also, she said police did not immediately bring her husband to the Rizal Medical Center because they were "busy attending to other things." "Nung pinasok siya sa kulungan naglalakad pa. Ngayon mabagal ang lakad, iika-ika (When he was detained, he was walking normally. Now he is limping)," she said. Metro Manila police head Directory Geary Barias said he will look into the matter. "Tatawagan ko ang station commander (I'll call up the station commander)," he said. - GMANews.TV
