Marcos: Amid political noise, public relies on cops as line of protection

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. highlighted Wednesday the role of police officers amid the prevailing political noise, noting that Filipinos depend on them as their line of protection.

In his speech during the oath taking ceremony of Philippine National Police star-ranked generals, Marcos said the challenges in the society has become more sophisticated and more complex.

“We face social divides, political noise, emerging tensions within our communities. At the same time, digital and technological threats now operate across borders and platforms,” Marcos said.

He said these threats could trigger disorder, which may escalate beyond physical spaces.

“In this environment, our people rely on the police as their immediate and dependable line of protection,” Marcos said.

Marcos assured the cops that his administration stands firmly behind the police force.

“We will continue to support reforms that will enhance your capacity and boost your morale,” Marcos said.

He mentioned the issuance of Executive Order No. 107, updating the base pay schedule of all military and uniformed personnel.

Marcos added that the daily subsistence allowance would be increased to P350.

“So, alongside these measures, we remain committed to supporting and ensuring the welfare of your families— recognizing that their well-being is integral to your service as a nation,” Marcos said.

Meanwhile, he told the promoted police generals that a “higher rank entails broader authority and greater influence over police operations, personnel welfare, and public trust.”

“This is the stage where leadership is being measured by your judgment, restraint, and consistency in upholding the law,” Marcos said.

Marcos urged them to continue improving themselves and avoid being complacent.

“So, I ask you to continue to improve yourselves—personally, professionally, institutionally. Do not be complacent,” the President said. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
