House extends session to Dec. 29 to ratify bicam report on 2026 budget

House extends session to Dec. 29 to ratify bicam report on 2026 budget

The House of Representatives on Monday amended its legislative calendar, extending its session to December 29, 2025 to pave the way for the ratification of the bicameral conference committee report on the proposed 2026 national budget.

House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos made a motion on the floor to move the resumption of session from December 22 to December 29, and the adjournment of session from December 23 to December 30.

He said that all other dates in the previously adopted calendar shall remain the same.

“I manifest before this body that additional time is required to complete the preparation and ratification of the conference committee report on the General Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 2026,” the lawmaker said.

“The ratification of the said conference committee report is imperative to ensure the continuity of government operations and the faithful implementation of the national budget for the ensuing fiscal year,” he added.

House Deputy Speaker and Misamis Oriental 2nd District Rep. Yevgeny Emano, sitting as presiding officer, approved the motion after no congressmen objected.

The Senate is set to amend its own legislative calendar on Monday afternoon.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, meanwhile, is expected to sign the 2026 budget before the year ends.

The bicameral conference committee adjourned early Thursday morning, wrapping up the extensive deliberations on the proposed P6.793-trillion national budget for fiscal year 2026 after four days. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
